linao cave
Linao Cave: Aerial view

I want to be specific:

I will give you a little trivia about this cave.

“Linao or Linaw”, means “Clear”. “Linaw” is the word of Waray language (folks in Samar & Leyte) meaning “Clear”. Not the anti-dandruff shampoo.

Linao Cave is in the middle of the mountain near in Brgy Sulangan, and ABCD beach in Calicoan Island.

There is a very cold not to much salty water inside. It is best for swimming especially in summer. The water is clear when it is high tide and if you are the first comer of the day.

On Holy week, folks in different barangay not far away from the cave, are gathered each other to go in Linao, to have some fun and to swim. Elders said that on holy week the insects or any kind of dangerous creatures are dead and that’s why it is safe to go there. They also believe that there is a passage, a hole under the water through the ocean.

How to get there in Linao Cave?

1.     Manila to Tacloban City - Airplane (1 hour)

2.     In Tacloban Airport ride in Jeepney to downtown area (few minutes only) and look for Van Van’s Terminal (P200) 2.5 hours of travel to Guiuan or Duptours (P160) (2.5 Hours), or Bus (P140) 3 to 4 hours of travel to Guiuan.

3.     In Guiuan Integrated Transport Terminal, look for Jeepneys  going to Brgy. Sulangan (30 minutes, not counted the waiting time to full the Jeepney) 20 to 25 pesos only. Tired waiting? You can also look for tricycles and rent them, 7 max passengers only. 60 kilos per person.

4.     If you don’t have yet a tour guide you can ask the brgy. Captain of Sulangan to get you one.

5.     Maybe you don’t need me anymore if you have your tour guide already. So Enjoy there and keep safe.

Tips:

1.     Bring flashlight

2.     First aid kit, in case of emergency.

3.     There are 2 entrances, one is closed because it is not safe up there it will collapse if too much weight but some folks want to try it.

4.     The second entrance is dark and you will swim a few meters and then, BOOM! Its paradise!
